New TRAI guidelines issued pertaining to "The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010" (NCPR).
This regulation to be effective from 1st-March-2011.

To summarize, the changes in the processes are:

1) Message Categories: NCPR differentiates the SMS in two categories

a) Transactional: Messages Directly concern to Subscriber. Example:

(i) Bank A\\C Balance

(ii) Debit\\Credits Inform of Bank A\\C, Demat A\\C, Credits Card or Debit Card

(iii) Inform of Booked Locomotive by Railway or Airlines.

(iv) Information of ward by the registered Educational Institute to the Parent or Gurdians.

b) Commercial: Message not directly concern to subscriber

(i) Shares & Commodities Tips provided by Stock

(ii) Sales, discount, offer etc by any anyone - Retails Outlet, Brands, Real Estates Dealers\\Company etc

Like Wise Message, NCCP has categorized Registered subscribers into Two Category

a) All Block: Except Transcational SMS, no SMS will be send to them.

b) Partial Block\\Preferred Choosed:

For Subscribers who want to receive SMS from Certain group, NCCP has designed this category. NCCP has under this category has made SEVEN sub-category namely

(1) Banking/Insurance/Financial products/credit cards

(2) Real Estate

(3) Education

(4) Health

(5) Consumer goods and automobiles

(6) Communication/Broadcasting/Entertainment/IT

(7) Tourism and Leisure

2) Timings:

Commercial messages: From 9 AM to 9 PM.

Transactional messages: 24 Hours

3) Sender ID:

Transactional Message: Operator Code followed by Area Code dash and the last six digit will be identifier of the organization

That mean now Sender Id will be of 6 Digits (Reduced from 8 digit to 6 digit)

For eg XY-yyyyyy

Commercial: 9 digit alpha numeric code provided to us by the Operator.

For eg - XY-Cyyyyy
